The Snapchat Pixel (also known as the Snap Pixel) is a tool that helps you track conversions, optimize your Snapchat ads, and retarget users who interact with your campaigns. By setting up the Snapchat Pixel, you can better understand user actions on your website and refine your ad targeting. Here’s how to set it up:
Step 1: Access Your Snapchat Ads Manager
Log in to your Snapchat Ads Manager account at https://ads.snapchat.com.
In the top-left corner, click on the three horizontal lines to open the menu and select Pixel under the Events section.
Step 2: Create a Snapchat Pixel
Click on Create Pixel to begin the process.
Name your pixel (e.g., "My Website Pixel") and choose your preferred method for installing it (manual or via a tag manager like Google Tag Manager).
Click Create Pixel to generate your pixel code.
Step 3: Install the Snapchat Pixel Code
Once your pixel is created, Snapchat will provide you with a Snapchat Pixel code.
Copy the pixel code to your clipboard.
Step 4: Add the Pixel Code to Your Website
Paste the Snapchat Pixel code into the
<head>
section of your website’s HTML.This code should appear on every page of your website where you want to track user behavior.
If you use Google Tag Manager, you can add the pixel code there instead, making it easier to manage and update tags.
Step 5: Set Up Event Tracking (Optional)
While the basic Snapchat Pixel tracks page views, you can also set up event tracking to track specific actions, such as purchases, sign-ups, or other important interactions. Snapchat offers several standard events like:
Page View – for when a user views a page on your site.
AddToCart – for tracking when users add products to their cart.
Purchase – for tracking completed purchases.
Here’s how to set up an event:
Go to Events in Snapchat Ads Manager.
Select the pixel you created and click Set Up Events.
Choose the event(s) you want to track and follow the instructions for adding the event code to the appropriate pages (e.g., a "Thank You" page for purchases).
Step 6: Verify the Pixel Installation
After installing the pixel on your website, it’s important to verify that it’s working properly.
You can use the Snapchat Pixel Helper Chrome extension to check whether the pixel is firing correctly on your website.
The extension will notify you if there are any issues and help you resolve them.
Step 7: Monitor and Optimize Campaigns
Once the Snapchat Pixel is collecting data, you can monitor your campaigns in the Snapchat Ads Manager.
The pixel data allows you to see how users interact with your website after clicking on your ads, enabling you to make adjustments to your campaigns and improve performance.
You can also create Custom Audiences for retargeting users who visited your website and Lookalike Audiences to expand your reach to people with similar behavior to your existing customers.
Troubleshooting Tips for Snapchat Pixel
Pixel Not Firing: Double-check the pixel code placement in the
<head>
section of your website and ensure that the code is applied to every page you wish to track.Event Tracking Issues: Ensure that you’ve added the correct event code to the relevant pages (e.g., the "Purchase" event code should be added to the confirmation page after a transaction).
Data Delays: It may take up to 24 hours for data to appear in your Snapchat Ads Manager, so be patient before troubleshooting further.
